Happy Holidays from chicken box land....

Hey all, wanted to give a shout, it's been months. The world is hectic and school is almost done. I've been work'en hard on mixes and songs, none of which have been published in a while but hold on....

A friend of mine asked me to make a few songs for his side scrolling video game... Next week I'm going to try to finish up the art work and post it. The title of the EP is called bmoreBox. Get your glow sticks and suckers... it's time to UNT UNT..

Okay here is the deal I grew up on cartoons REAL cartoons my favorite of all time was the Spider Man cartoon from 1967 - 1970. I stumbled upon a podcast that plays all the background music from the show ......HOT!!!!! So what this is, is that dude found the music they used and he plays the shows sound bites (which are very muddy sounding) and then he plays a digitally remastered version of the same track (butter). A lot of cats sampled these joints Busta Rhymes, MF Doom to name a few ( I wish I had a Sp1200 these joints are official). So please peep this it's very hot.

House Shoes - Presents The King James Version Chapter 1 Verses 1-5

If you still for some reason don’t believe that James Yancey is on par with any other person ever to touch a beat machine, House Shoes‘ mixtape The King James Version is further proof of the other-worldy talent and in particular the finely tuned ear that Jay Dee possessed. From the most well known classics to unreleased demos from the vaults, Shoes compiles a compilation of Dilla’s inspiration that will have you diggers hating your life and newbies mystified. Shoes is that dude.

Edgewood Mix - complete!

VitalSoundz, it's an honor to call this spot home. I've been into music for a while now, and with the influx of terrible tunes being put on the radio, I decided to become a musical activist. Meaning, letting people know that real hip-hop has always been underground. I hope you all enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed making it.

I've been doing mixes since Nov last year. Each one getting better or worse as I go. I have a few series of mixes (Preset|Transet) I wouldn't mind posting. But instead of making peoples ears bleed, I figure 'Edgewood' is where I would invite you in to my musical world.

Edgewood is a mix of underground hip-hop and alternative hip-hop, these are probably two of my favorite styles. Now I like to 'play' with my mixes as you will hear on Sir Bounce and Flying Lotus tracks. Just remember it might not sound right but just wait, sometimes you gotta make things off to make people listen harder to the upcoming song! ;)

The use of 'skits' in this mix is new to this Preset. This is basically what i consider my first 1.0 mix CD. The rest have all been named Preset 0.1 through 0.3. Going forward, I hope to continue adding 'flare' to my mixes, just to give the listener the feeling that I took my time wit dis shit!

In the future, look for my stuff. At the end of the year I'm going to putting out my first non-profit beats CD. Then hopefully a few months after that I will have vocals on the 1.5 version. Also, this summer prolly in june, I will be dropping another Mix tape called (Summa Lub)it's my summer mix for the ladies!

So there are two ways to get to this mix, wait till April 20th when I officially release this mix on CD. Or attempt to listen through my ftp - if it's up!

Edgewood Mix

Thanks for listening, and remember fish grease or hair grease, they both make something brown look good!

J.Period & Q-Tip: The [Abstract] Best

Rapper/producer and former Tribe Called Quest front man Q-Tip is celebrated on a new mixtape produced in collaboration with DJ Period. Titled The [Abstract] Best, J. Period's latest mixtape is a combination of tracks from Q-Tip's deep catalog, as well as remixes, interviews and new tracks from a list of popular MC's, who pay homage to the Queens, New York rap star. Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Skillz, Talib Kweli, Prince Paul, Consequence, Pharoahe Monch, Black Thought, ?uestlove, Black Sheep, Kid Cudi, Blu and others are among the list of rappers featured on the mixtape. “I greatly appreciate the time and dedication J.Period has put into this mixtape,” Q-Tip said of the collaboration. “He has pulled together an amazing group of contributing artists, and I am honored that my music has been inspirational to all of them. The feeling is mutual.” The [Abstract] Best is the follow up to the track "Q-Tip for President," which their pair released in November in celebration of President Barack Obama. In a tradition of acclaimed official "Best Of" mixtapes ranging from Nas to Big Daddy Kane, The Roots to Lauryn Hill, New York-based deejay J. Period has joined forces with the legendary Q-Tip to release The [Abstract] Best. The release, a volume one of at least two, follows the duo's November collaboration Q-Tip For President, the Barack Obama/election-inspired work that received over 100,000 downloads. The [Abstract] Best features all new material, rare material, and exclusive collorations from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Pharoahe Monch, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Zion I and others.Perhaps most notably, the work features a Native Tongues reunion between Q-Tip and his longtime brethren, De La Soul. The song, titled "Excursions 2009 (Tribute Mix)" can be heard on HipHopDX. De La's Posdnuos told HipHopDX, "Q-Tip is my family and I've known J. Period for some years now, so coming to the call of being a part of this wasn't a question," in response to how this historic reunion took shape. He added of their professional opinion of each other, he's my big little brother. I'm older than him, but I've learned a lot from him about Jazz music and breaks in general. Tip showed and helped me get a lot better at using the SP-12 [sampler]. Before then, I was working on the original Apple computers to make beats. His music is filled with many mazes; it's not just one path to understanding, the music he contributed to Tribe and outside work. It's timeless."Pos also commended J. Period for his own groundbreaking work in the mixtape medium. "As I said, I have known J for a while, from seeing him at parties and Hip Hop functions, and he used to give me his CD of mixes which I still have - one of my favorites is the Best of Lauryn Hill. There are millions of mixtape deejays, but a lot of them just make compilations of others work and try to use that to make a name for themselves. [J. Period] places quality in his work and seeks out the artist that he is making a CD on, and as well, looks to add elements that aren't the norm and he can actually deejay so he's part of that family of dope deejays, like Kid Capri and others who made you look forward to the next mixtape."Posdnuos lastly revealed that De La Soul, who besides an official 2006 mixtape, has not released an album in over five years, is presently at work with Nike on their next project called Are You In?. The work is due in March, a lead-in to the album, You're Welcome, promised on the 20th anniversary of De La Soul's 1989 Tommy Boy Records classic debut. The album reportedly will feature Gorillaz, and Chuck D of Public Enemy. He added that the group may promote the latter release with a similar Best Of mixtape.

The Greatest Sample or Break mixtape in the known Universe!

Owusu and Hannibal

I hit my man Chris up last week that used to work at a record store here in Baltimore called Soundgarden. I always ask him to put me up on the latest bangers. He turned me onto Jazzanova some years ago and I'm glad that he did. This time he told me to check out a group called Owusu and Hannibal. I got the CD, and instantly, one of the songs on this CD had become my favorite song of 2009 so far. Good Lookin Chris!!! The song I am referring to is called 'Le Fox'. The song immediately following Le Fox is called 'A Million Babies' which Owusu and Hannibal chops up 'Steve Spacek feat. Jay Dee & Frank n Drank - Eve (Jay Dee Remix)' to make the beat. Listen for it. By the way, Dwele wrote and sang the song before Steve Spacek. Get all of the songs here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K0GMUIPQ Get Owusu and Hannibal's cd...'Living With'
